Minister States Ministry of Defence Examining Security Risk from Chinese Cars, as Staff Advised to Avoid Secret Talk in Vehicles.

A defense minister has confirmed that the Ministry of Defence is actively investigating the possible security risks associated with Chinese-made cars, and staff have been told to avoid talking about classified matters in any cars.

Safety Advice for MoD Personnel

During a recent appearance on LBC, a defence minister commented on claims that Ministry of Defence officials have been told not to talk about classified material while riding in Chinese cars.

He stated that the ministry is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, however noted that security is a concern in all contemporary vehicles.

We have a fleet of thousands of vehicles in the MoD and those vehicles account for a very small number.
However whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our staff is to avoid connecting MoD technology into their car, not to have conversations at a secret classification in any vehicle, due to the growing threats of surveillance that exist in all vehicle, to restrict those confidential conversations in protected areas. This is a wise and sensible thing for anyone concerned about security.

After it was put to him that it would be prudent for the ministry to stop using every cars from China, Pollard responded: That is precisely what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Broader Defence Context

The revelation follows reports from Scandinavian countries have warned the UK to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese electric buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off public transport and cause chaos to transport systems.

Furthermore, a Russian intelligence vessel has been shining laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “extremely risky” act by defence officials.

This broader defence environment highlights the importance of robust protocols and caution in all areas of official activities, including vehicle use to communication habits.
